What a strong diesel mechanic resume shows
- ASE and license credentials. ASE T-series (medium/heavy truck) certifications by number, state inspection licenses, and a CDL if you hold one — road-testing your own repairs is a real advantage.
- Engine families and equipment. The OEM lines you have actually worked on — for example Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR, or Duramax/Power Stroke — plus trailer, bus, or off-highway equipment experience.
- Diagnostic software fluency. OEM and multi-brand tools such as Cummins INSITE, Detroit Diesel DiagnosticLink, or JPRO. Modern diesel work is half electronics; show you are on the right half.

List each one with its number and name — "ASE T2 Diesel Engines, T4 Brakes" — in a certifications section near the top, and note if you are working toward Master status. Recruiters and tracking systems search for the specific test codes.
Does a CDL belong on a mechanic resume?
Yes. A mechanic who can legally road-test the truck after a repair saves the shop a driver. List the class and endorsements. If you do not have one, some employers will help you get it — do not let its absence stop you from applying.
